Saddest Deaths of Soap Stars in 2024

With just four months left until we welcome 2025, it’s hard to fathom how many beloved soap stars we’ve lost this year. 2024 has been marked by an unusually high number of farewells, leaving us to reflect on the incredible talents we’ve said goodbye to. Today, we honor these stars and their contributions to the world of daytime television.

First up, we remember Bridget Dobson, a trailblazing figure in daytime TV. Dobson, who passed away at the age of 85, was an Emmy-winning writer known for her groundbreaking work on “Santa Barbara” and her role as head writer for “Guiding Light,” “As the World Turns,” and “General Hospital.”

The soap world also mourns the loss of Bill Hayes, who died on January 12, 2024, at 98. Hayes was cherished for his role as Doug Williams on “Days of Our Lives” and was married to his co-star Susan Seaforth Hayes for nearly 50 years. His presence in Salem will be greatly missed.

Alec Mazo, known for his role as Dell Henry on “All My Children,” passed away on January 12, 2024, at the age of 50. Mazo was also recognized for his appearance on “I Want to Be a Soap Star” and was remembered fondly by Adam Sandler, who cast him in “Grown Ups.”

Spencer Milligan, best known for his role as Rick Marshall on “Land of the Lost,” died on April 18, 2024, at 86. Milligan also appeared as Ray Gibbons on “General Hospital.”

Mara Adams, who portrayed Dina Abbott on “The Young and the Restless” for nearly 40 years, passed away on April 25, 2024, at 85. Adams was also known for her role as Beth on “The Bold and the Beautiful.”

Dabney Coleman, recognized for his role as the boss from hell in “9 to 5,” passed away on May 16, 2024, at 92. Coleman also had a recurring role as Dr. Tracy Graham on “Bright Promise.”

Johnny Wacker, who played Brando Corbin on “General Hospital,” tragically passed away on May 26, 2024, at 37. His death was reported as a result of an alleged robbery.

Elizabeth McCrae, known for her roles on “General Hospital,” “Another World,” “Days of Our Lives,” “Guiding Light,” and “Search for Tomorrow,” passed away on May 27, 2024, at 88.

Janice Page, who was known for her role as Minks Lockridge on “Santa Barbara,” passed away on June 2, 2024, at 101. Page also appeared on “General Hospital” and “Capital” and starred in the 1950s sitcom “It’s Always Jan.”

Alan Scarff, who was known for his role as Leo Chomo on “One Life to Live,” passed away on April 28, 2024, at 77. Scarff’s character was known for seeking the mythical city of Eterna and had complex interactions with Vicki.

Bill Cobbs, with over 195 credits to his name, passed away on June 25, 2024, at 90. Cobbs was known to daytime fans for his roles on “The Bay” and “One Life to Live.”

Rald White, a model and actor who made history as the second Black model on the cover of GQ, passed away on June 26, 2024, at 80. White had a brief role as William Reynolds on “Guiding Light.”

Martin Mole, beloved for his roles in “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman” and its spin-offs, passed away on June 27, 2024, at 80. Mole was also fondly remembered for his role as Colonel Mustard in the 1985 film “Clue.”

Joseph Hardy, known for his role as executive producer on “Love is a Many Splendored Thing,” “Loving,” and “General Hospital,” died on June 6, 2024, at 95. Hardy was especially noted for his polarizing time as producer of “Ryan’s Hope.”

Richard Simmons, the beloved fitness guru who appeared intermittently on “General Hospital” from 1979 to 2013, passed away on July 13, 2024, at 76. Simmons was famous for his exuberant fitness routines.

Shannon Doy, star of “Beverly Hills, 90210” and “Charmed,” passed away on July 13, 2024, at 53. Her long battle with breast cancer ended after a remarkable career in television.

James B. Sikking, who starred on “Hill Street Blues” and “Doogie Howser, MD,” and had a role on “General Hospital” in the mid-1970s, passed away on July 13, 2024, at 82.

John Aprea, known for his roles on “Full House” and “The Godfather Part Two,” passed away on August 5, 2024, at 83. Aprea was particularly remembered by daytime fans for his roles on “Another World” and “General Hospital.”
