DS Swain’s teenage daughter’s identity has been finally revealed in Coronation Street – and it’s all kicking off for the troubled teen.
Last month, the soap confirmed that the detective’s feisty and headstrong daughter would be making her way to Weatherfield. Vicky Myers, who plays Swain, hinted that her on-screen daughter is “feisty, opinionated and educated”.
The plot thickened as Swain wangled a work experience gig for her daughter at Carla Connor’s (played by Alison King) factory, Underworld. The drama ramps up next week when she starts her new role.
But in a twist during Friday’s episode (June 28), viewers were gobsmacked as Betsy was unveiled as Swain’s daughter in a tense park meet-up. The two had a fiery exchange before Swain insisted Betsy get into the car.
The bombshell comes after Betsy already made an appearance earlier in the week, hanging out with Sabrina, who is being targeted by dodgy lawyer Joel Deering (Calum Lill).
Joel, the man behind Lauren Bolton’s vanishing act, was seen trying to charm Sabrina over coffee on Monday’s episode (June 24), even offering her booze to sweeten the deal.
He tried to win her over by saying she reminded him of his ex and that he was “punching” above his weight with her. But Betsy, now identified as Swain’s daughter, wasn’t fooled by Joel’s sleazy tactics, warning Sabrina off and sneakily pocketing his business card after pretending to throw it away.
Later, Betsy confronted Joel and tried to blackmail him. She warned him that she has a “big gob” and threatened to expose his creepy behaviour.
In Friday’s episode (June 28), Betsy crashed Joel’s engagement party, demanding money. A startled Joel quickly ushered her out after handing over some cash.
Earlier this week, fans figured out that Sabrina’s mysterious friend was Swain’s daughter. They also expressed their concerns that she might be Joel’s next victim.
One fan posted on X: “Oh sh*t, Sabrina’s mate is next #Corrie.” Another chimed in: “Sabrina’s mate gonna come to a sticky end.” A third agreed: “Sabrina’s mate will be Joel’s next victim #Corrie.”
