BBC Casualty romance ‘sealed’ as Dylan Keogh and newcomer see sparks fly

BBC One viewers have noticed that newcomer Sophia Peters (portrayed by Kellie Shirley) has caught the attention of the consultant, played by William Beck since she was first introduced in the first instalment of Casualty’s miniseries, Storm Damage.

In the second episode of the miniseries aired this Saturday, June 22, 2024, as paramedic Teddy made his return and Iain saved a man from drowning, many soap fans agreed that romance was definitely on the cards for both characters. One notably penned: “I’m rooting for these two.” A second TV fan added: “Dylan is in love with Sophia.”

Unfortunately, another handful of viewers argued that she may not be the right choice for Dylan as the psychiatric liaison nurse was leaving some of them livid due to her seemingly bossy behaviour.

“This new nurse Sophia is not right for Dylan !! She’s just asked Dylan to say ‘please’ FFS. Why can’t they get Dylan and Stevie together?”, one Casualty fan lamented. Another echoed: “Sorry Sophia, but what’s with the attitude? All because last time they met Dylan told her he didn’t ask for her opinion? She should be more professional & not take it personal & shouldn’t need a please to do her job. Classic frenemies to lovers.”

Things went from bad to worse when Sophia told Dylan, who was trying to build a bond with her later on in the show, that she would “never in a million- in two million years” consider him as a potential suitor – a brutal rejection she may backtrack one. During a recent chat with Radio Times, actress Kellie Shirley revealed what could be ahead for both her on-screen alter ego and Dylan Keogh, teasing: “I guess you’re going to get this rom-com vibes from Dr Keogh and Sophia. The will they/won’t they… there’s some of that going on.”

But before Dylan and Sophia can let their connection evolve, the nurse is due to face some hard-hitting mental health storylines. “[I’ve] got some things coming up, which is brilliant, because there is so much mental health, even more so now in society with services being cut”, Kellie added. “I think the Casualty writers are shining a light on something that’s really important [and] that is very current in contemporary society. So that’s brilliant.”

Kellie Shirley was introduced alongside former Emmerdale star Ryan Hawley, known to have portrayed Robert Sugden in the ITV soap. The star portrays a character named Jamie, who shares a link with Cam Mickelthwaite. But what will he be up to?
