We have some very sad news to share today about The Young and the Restless. Former cast member Gina Tognoni, known for her role as Phyllis, recently shared a heartbreaking update. On August 6th, Tognoni revealed through her social media that their beloved dog, Monty Poano, has sadly passed away. The puppy, who had just turned four months old, was introduced to fans with great excitement earlier this year. Tognoni and her husband Joseph Cello had been celebrating Monty’s arrival with many touching posts, and the news of his death has come as a great shock to fans.
The passing of Monty Poano has touched many in the soap opera community. Eileen Davidson, who played Ashley Abbott, expressed her sorrow and remembered Monty fondly. Jessica Collins, who portrayed Avery, and Tracy E. Bregman, known for her role as Lauren, also shared their condolences and heartfelt messages. Rebecca Budig, who currently stars on The Bold and the Beautiful, added her own tribute, calling Monty “adorable” and sending her congrats to the family for their love and care of the pup.
Fans may recall that Tognoni first introduced Monty on July 4th, sharing a festive photo of him wearing a bandana and describing him as a “sweet boy.” Gina Tognoni, who took over the role of Phyllis from Michelle Stafford in 2014 and stayed with The Young and the Restless until 2019, had a long-standing career in daytime TV, including her roles on One Life to Live and Guiding Light.
Tognoni’s return to daytime television has been eagerly anticipated, and while we will miss seeing Monty in her posts, we hope to see more of Tognoni in the future. Our thoughts are with her and her family during this difficult time.
