Eric Braeden has stepped forward to support Alec Baldwin amidst the ongoing legal battle surrounding the tragic death of cinematographer Helen Hutchins on the set of the movie “Rust.” The veteran “Young and Restless” star took to social media to express his outrage at Baldwin being held accountable for involuntary manslaughter.
“As an actor since 1962, I’ve been on countless sets where guns were used, often playing the villain,” Braeden stated passionately. “It’s a well-established practice that actors are not responsible for whether a prop gun is loaded. For over 60 years in my career, the prop person ensures the gun is safe, usually with the assistant director present.”
Braeden continued to defend Baldwin, emphasizing that blaming him for the tragedy is unjust and unrealistic. “The responsibility lies with the assistant director and the armor to ensure the gun is unloaded and safe. Alec Baldwin, like any actor, trusted that the gun was free of bullets when handed to him. The idea that he should have checked it himself is absurd.”
Although not personally close to Baldwin, Braeden noted, “I know him peripherally.” Baldwin, known for his roles in “30 Rock” and “The Doctors,” started his career in soap operas before transitioning to prime-time and film. He and his wife, Hilaria, are currently developing a reality series for TLC featuring their large family.
The situation surrounding Baldwin’s involvement in the tragic incident on the set of “Rust” continues to unfold, with legal proceedings and public opinion shaping the narrative.
