SYDNEY Martin is best known to soap fans as Weatherfield’s newest star.

The actress recently made her debut as Betsy Swain, the young and feisty daughter of Detective Sergeant Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers).

In Coronation Street, she plays a plucky teenager who is already involved in an emotionally heavy storyline.

Despite her youthful appearance on ITV, Sydney is actually 22-years-old and has already graduated from her studies at drama school.

After making her debut, her social media following has already achieved rapid growth and fans have been loving her content.

According to her profile, Sydney is no stranger to posting glamorous snaps for her growing following to see.

She has been pictured dressed in a variety of glam looks whilst soaking up the sun abroad.

It’s clear that she’s proud of her work on the cobbles as her recent posts included a portrait of her character, who posed outside the Rovers Return.

Sydney captioned the post: “The hardest secret to keep- Betsy Swain has officially landed on the cobbles✨.

“I couldn’t be more grateful to join the Coronation Street family and to play the daughter of DS Swain, thank you to everyone for welcoming me with open arms, I can’t wait for everyone to get to know her!”

Fans have already seen the actress in action as she’s involved in the aftermath of the disappearance of Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton).

Joel Deering (Callum Lill) has already set his eyes on his newest target, in the form of Sabrina Adetiba (Luana Santos).

As he moved forward with his grooming scheme, the new friendship came to the complete dismay of her best friend.

Betsy warned her pal away from the dodgy lawyer, and she urged her to stay clear of him, recognising his dodgy traits.

Later, viewers watched on as Betsy confronted Joel and tried to blackmail him.

A warning was sent to the villain, as Betsy insisted that she has a “big gob” and is not afraid to raise her voice and expose his criminality.

She later turned up at the Bistro during his engagement celebration with Dee Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) where he paid her off and made her disappear from the area.

Famous friend

Away from the cobbles, it seems that she has a strong connection to another soap.

Hollyoaks star Isabelle Smith currently plays as Frankie Osbourne in the Channel 4 serial drama and she’s counted as one of Sydney’s pals.

After her graduation from drama school, Sydney took to her Instagram account where she posted a number of snaps from her leaving do.

Her fellow soap star actress couldn’t help but post in the comments section as she wrote: “So proud of you! Love you forever xxx”.

Strained Relationship

Corrie viewers have also seen the first glimpses of the character’s strained relationship with her police officer mum.

And Sydney has already given a sneak peek for what soap fans may expect in the neat future.

The actress explained: “Betsy’s been brought up by two female detectives but seems to have contempt for the law.

“She lost her other mum when she was on duty so she has some disrespect for the career. But if she gets in trouble she’s, like, ‘Mum, you can get me out of it’.”

Sydney added: “There’s this sort of playfulness there… she’s a bit naive and thinks the law doesn’t apply to her.

“She’s like my alter ego. She’s so confident and so feisty. I’d have loved to have been that confident at her age.”
